Within the Leaves, a Sight of the Forest (working title)

Within the Leaves, a Sight of the Forest (working title, due 2019) is in process. It is a further development of Proposal for a Film: Within the Leaves, a Sight of the Forest (2016).

Diverting the installation from the waste route for the sake of telling the stories seems to go against the grain of environmental preservation. And, why would someone want to preserve something that is ordinarily destined to eventually vanish?

However, as Five Tonnes of Homes and Other Understories assumed its imposing form at Art Basel Hong Kong 2016, it made waves. As an artwork, it relays important stories. These stories would normally be erased as cardboard waste is recycled into fresh new cardboard, dissolved into the wealth of cardboard queen Zhang Yin and the global economy.

As I put the installation into a temporary storage with the last of my budget resources, I continue filming.

In 2017, China began reinforcing restrictions on its waste import, causing disruptions around the world.

In 2018, Five Tonnes of Homes and Other Understories arrived in Australia. As an artwork, it has also entered a new value system.
